Listening devices for the sanctuary are available for use during Sunday worship. Please see an usher for assistance.

If you are a visitor, we encourage you to use the parking spaces near the main entrance that are marked reserved for visitors. The volunteers who greet you at the entrance can answer any questions you might have.

An usher will provide you with bulletin when you enter the sanctuary. An asterisk (*) indicates when it is appropriate to stand, if you are able.

Most Sundays the scripture readings follow the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL). The hymnal we use is the PCUSA’s newest hymnal, Glory to God.

Appropriate dress is your choice. You will find those in suits and ties as well as those who prefer a much more casual dress. It doesn’t matter. All are welcome.

Special Services

Jazz Services

Held several times a year on Sunday mornings

The jazz service uses jazz standards, traditional hymns, and gospel music in the liturgy of the Service for the Lord's Day. Dave Reid, Shallowford member and a gifted jazz musician, assists in the planning for this service in which he leads the band and plays sax and clarinet. Stay tuned for the date of our next Jazz Worship!

Taizé Services

Image

The French ecumenical Community of Taizé is known throughout the world for its dedication to prayer for reconciliation in the world and for its beautiful liturgy that engages the worshiper through contemplative sung prayer. The simple and accessible prayers of Taizé use few words and are sung repeatedly, becoming a way of listening to God and waiting attentively on God. Shallowford’s beautiful sanctuary, illuminated by the soft light of many candles, makes a sacred space for this service that includes the sung prayers interspersed with scripture readings and a time of silence, allowing space for both prayer and meditation.

Our Taizé prayer services traditionally take place on the evening of the first Sunday in October (Peacemaking Sunday) and the first Sunday in Lent. Check the calendar for specific dates and times.

As you enter:

You will receive a bulletin for the service. There will be a basket for offerings at the entrance to the sanctuary.

In the sanctuary:

Individual bags with children's bulletins and coloring pages will be provided for children attending with families.

In worship:

We will sing as a congregation and participate in congregational responses.

On Sundays when communion is received we will use prepackaged disposable communion elements that may be picked up as you enter the sanctuary.

Restrooms:

The downstairs Women's and Men's restrooms are available for use.
