Shallowford Presbyterian Church is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Chartered in 1984, the congregation has been worshiping in its present sanctuary since 1987. We are a community yearning for a deeper relationship with God that leads us to gratitude, connects us with all of creation, and opens our heart to serve and make a difference in this world that God so loves. We are a community that seeks to honor God through a deep appreciation of music, the arts, and the ancient traditions of contemplation and meditation.
Reformed, Always Reforming
Presbyterians believe that the Word of God is present and active in the world, making "all things new" in and through Jesus Christ (Rev. 21:5). We ourselves, as individuals and as the church, are being ever transformed by this Word, even as we share its good news with the world. And part of the good news is this: God is not finished yet. (from "What Presbyterians Believe: Placing Our Hope in the Changes God Makes" By Cynthia Rigsby)
Presbyterians believe in the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, justification by grace through faith and the priesthood of all believers. What these tenets mean is that God is the supreme authority throughout the universe. Our knowledge of God and God's purpose for humanity comes from the Bible, particularly what is revealed in the New Testament through the life of Jesus Christ. Our salvation through Jesus is God's generous gift to us and not the result of our own accomplishments. It is everyone's job - ministers and lay people alike - to share this Good News with the whole world. That is also why the Presbyterian church is governed at all levels by a combination of clergy and laity, men and women alike. (Source: Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
