Pilgrimage Ministry
Shallowford is a pilot congregation for this engaging, exciting adult spiritual formation ministry. The Pilgrimage is a comprehensive ministry that includes four classes per year. Previous topics have included Desert Spirituality, Contemplative Prayer, and Celtic Spirituality.
Pilgrims that engage in the coursework are invited to be a part of compass group that meets monthly and consists of five to six pilgrims. The group prays, listens, studies, and discerns together.
There are retreats, as well as intentional pilgrimages both domestic and international.
The Pilgrimage creates a community and provides tools and experiences through which we learn to hear the call of God and respond in faith, journeying together with friends on the path to a Spirit-led and joyful life.
Courses are open to all. For further information, contact the church office.
The Shallowford Labyrinth
The Shallowford Labyrinth was built by the congregation of Shallowford Presbyterian Church in 2005. We hope that it will be a gift to our community of faith and to all who come to walk.
What is a labyrinth?
The labyrinth has been used as a place for prayer, meditative walking, contemplation, inspiration and renewal by many religious cultures for thousands of years. Ancient labyrinths have been found at sites dating more than 5,000 years old.
Come Walk the Labyrinth
Groups and individuals are invited to walk the Shallowford Labyrinth. Located on the church grounds, the labyrinth is open to visitors from dawn to dusk. Contact the church at 336.766-3178 for information, to schedule group visits or to arrange for a guided introduction.
See more information on the Shallowford Labyrinth here.
Prayer Garden
The Prayer Garden was given in 2008, during a time of deep recession in the world. The donor writes, "Things of beauty give us hope. We all badly needed that. The garden was a gift of hope and love."
Contemplation is an alternative consciousness that refuses to identify with or feed what are only passing shows. It is the absolute opposite of addiction, consumerism or any egoic consciousness.Richard Rohr
