Matthew 25
Shallowford Presbyterian is a Matthew 25 congregation, joining more than 1,200 PC(USA) congregations in helping our denomination become a more relevant presence worldwide.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Presbyterian Mission summarizes the Matthew 25 vision: The Matthew 25 invitation focuses on Matthew 25:31-46, the parable of the sheep and goats in which Jesus makes clear that what we do matters to God and how we treat others is important to God. When we welcome others, we welcome Christ; when we bring together people who are divided, we are doing God's reconciling work. We are called to serve Jesus by contributing to the well-being of the most vulnerable in societies - rural and urban, small and large, young and not-so-young. From affordable housing to community gardens to equitable educational and employment opportunities to healing from addiction and mental illness to enacting policy change - there is not just one way to be a part of the Matthew 25 movement.Make no mistake, Jesus is calling us to perform ordinary acts of compassion in daily life. In so doing, we continue Christ's work of proclaiming release to captives and good news to the poor - the good news of God's righteousness, justice and peace for all.A Commitment to Outreach
The Shallowford Community participates in the four denominational outreach offerings of the PC(USA), is a strong supporter of our local CROP Walk, and collects monthly offerings for Pennies for Hunger. We invest time and financial resources in many outreach ministries including:
12-Step Programs
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.
AL-Anon Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
Al-Anon members are people, just like you, who are worried about someone with a drinking problem. There is no magic formula that enables you to help someone stop - or cut back - on his or her drinking. Alcoholism is a complex problem, with many related issues. But Al-Anon can help you learn how to cope with the challenges of someone else's drinking.
Narcotics Anonymous (NA) - 2 Meetings: Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and Women's Group Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only one requirement for membership, the desire to stop using.
